What causes cellulite?
- Over time, skin thins.
- Fat cells enlarge and push against the skin.
- The fibrous bands under the skin thicken and cause tension—and the signature dimpling on your butt.
What is QWO and how does it help reduce cellulite?
QWO is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. The fibrous bands that connect the surface skin to the underlying fascia are made up of collagen. QWO contains an enzyme which digests those collagen bands, resulting in the release of tension and structure. This allows the neighboring fats cells to redistribute before the collagen bands regrow and reattach. This redistribution of fat cells and restructuring of the fibrous bands reduces the dimpling associated with cellulite. Visible results may be achieved in 10 weeks.
Are there any side effects?
QWO is injected into targeted dimples in the buttocks using a small needle. Over a period of days following injection, QWO induces the release of fibrous bands and the redistribution of fats cells. Small blood vessels and capillary beds in the area of injection become disrupted resulting in bruising at the treatment sites. This bruising is usually associated with pain resulting from nerve irritation from the disruption of the local tissue architecture. The most common side effects of QWO include: injection site bruising, pain, areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, swelling and warmth in the treatment area. Over the period of a couple weeks, the bruising will diminish and disappear leaving a smoother appearance of the surface skin. Pre-treatment with oral supplements that help with bruise reduction, as well as compression of the injection sites, can help reduce the amount of bruising that occurs following QWO injections.
In addition to the common side effects listed above, QWO may, on rare occasions, cause serious side effects including allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis and injection site bruising.
These are not all the possible side effects of QWO, but represent the most common side effects seen. A consultation with our provider is highly recommend to ensure that every effort is made to avoid any potential for long-term side effects.
How many treatments does it take to achieve optimal results?
We recommend at least three treatments, 3-4 weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. Each treatment may require fewer injections as the number of dimples becomes less and less.
