About Our Practice

Mahinakealo is a dermatology practice located on the Big Island of Hawai’i where our mission is to help each patient understand how best to take care of their skin.  Healthy skin enhances your beauty.  We are here to help you achieve your goals and shine as bright as the moon!

The name Mahinakealo comes from the Hawaiian phrase, “Pali ke kua, mahina ke alo, ” which means “back a cliff, front a moon.”  This phrase refers to the beauty of a person.

Marné has teamed up with Dr. Amylynne Frankel, as her supervising physician and medical director, to provide the highest quality medical and aesthetic services to the Hilo community and the Big Island of Hawai’i in general.  For those of you who know both of these outstanding professionals, this is an exciting combination.  We are fortunate to have Dr. Frankel here to see patients on the Big Island quarterly for two weeks at a time and hope she is able to move here permanently soon.  In the meantime, Marné will be our main provider and is well known in both the Hilo community and Big Island in general.  When you add the exceptional aesthetic abilities of Emily Sturdevant and Heather Neidhamer to the group, this is a winning combination.  Our aestheticians provide the skills needed for a complete dermatology practice that provides patients with all of their medical and aesthetic needs in one location.
